We got to ask the pros what is more important Gym or Sprints? It’s always interesting to hear what the pros have to say. As a coach to pick one over the other is very hard. At the the highest level of racing, the the gym is going to be the limiting factor to be in the mains vs watching them. Strength is still needed as to how much power you put down into the pedals. Strength is needed for repeating sprint efforts throughout the day and in the grand scheme of things, strength is the limiting factor to power. The more strength you have then the more power you can potentially discharge. As for sprints, I look at this as a way to configure your power, work on a different demand of resistance, work on a different demand of neurological adaptation, but more importantly – work on your acceleration position. Can you get fast doing sprints only? Absolutely but you’re going to hit a point where it no longer serves it’s purpose of improving power where gym will.
